Florentine Art Under Fire, originally published in 1949 by Princeton University Press, is an extraordinary factual true story. It is an inspiring, poignant, and tragic recounting of the years that Lieutenant Frederick Hartt spent in Italy recovering and restoring works of the treasured art stolen by the Nazis from Italy during the Second World War.

This must read tells, how innumerable invaluable works of art, a heritage belonging not only to the suffering Italians, but to the culture of the world, were at the brink of destruction.

Recounted are little known facts about the struggles of the allied forces to reunite the masterpieces of art with the Italian homeland. As a first hand telling of this historic time in Italy, Frederick Hartt writes about the events in a gripping manner, revealing the heroism of the Monuments Men on the frontlines of the battlegrounds, and their selfless sacrifices to preserve the priceless art for the world.

Hartt's profound love for Italy shines through his writing from beginning to the end, making this book a true page turner. — Frederick Hartt (1914 - 1991), the distinguished scholar of Italian Rennaissance art, was an Honorary Citizen of Italy and Knight of the Crown of Italy.

From Frederick Hartt's introduction:

«To the student who knew Italy before the war the beauty of the Tuscan towns and cities, the magnificence not only of the Pitti and the Uffizi but of the scores-of provincial collections, the grandeur of the churches and the palaces, must have seemed as inviolable as the matchless Tuscan landscape.
What happens when this dense fabric of human achievement, so infinitely precious, so incalculably old, so carefully guarded, is struck by the full force of modern warfare?
This is what I shall try to record in the following pages. It is a chapter of recent history, in which I hope Allied successes and Allied failures will receive equally objective treatment, and in which honest German attempts to protect and to save works of art will be related side by side with the concerted Nazi program under which Tuscany was to be insofar as possible despoiled of her art treasures.
German mines, often needlessly, obliterated a high proportion of Tuscan monuments; Allied bombers damaged many a church and palace with bombs intended for nearby railway yards or troop concentrations.

Palestine Issa Nakhleh August 2014 Issa Nakhleh (1915 - 2003) was a Palestinian Christian, born in Palestine. He was a graduate of London University and a Barrister-at-Law of the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London, Member of the Palestine Bar. He represented the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine in New York 1947-1948. He was Representative of the League of Arab States with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary for Latin America with an office in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For the last well over thirty years of his life he represented the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine in New York. He attended more than fifteen Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly, and made more than fifty speeches in the Special Committee on the Problem of Palestine.

This Encyclopedia of the Palestine Problem, originally published as a 2 volume hardcover in 1991, shows the roots of the Palestine problem, shows where it all began. It is an important work of historical facts, republished as an eBook, as a body of profound detail, so that politicians, diplomats, government agencies, law makers, scholars, journalists, the interested public and the uncounted Palestinians scattered all over the world, who want their children to understand the tragedy, can read and discuss the issues with in depth knowledge. Facing those times is a requirement to come to a solution and help the area get out of the mess it has been in ever since the founding days of the state of Israel.
It would also be fair to those innocently born in Israel, to understand, what great injustice the founders of the state, their fathers and grandfathers, have done and what an ever lasting burden will be on their young shoulders, should Israel not face up to the crimes committed over decades. History is a curse and history is a hope. It is time Israel faced its past. Or, as professor John Quigley, then professor of International Law at the Ohio University College of Law, wrote in his foreword to this book: “The consequences of Mr. Nakhleh’s analysis are serious. If the government of Israel has committed even a fraction of the international crimes he describes, then virtually every high official in Israel from 1948 to the present [1991, the editor] is subject to prosecution as a war criminal.”
